One first solar bill, from the bill run to a signed correction
Mariam Haddad's 9.6 kWp rooftop system at Villa 14, Coral Lane, Al Waha was energised on 30 June 2026. Her first solar bill came out of Lumina Utilities' July bill run showing no credit at all. Here is what happens next, screen by screen, in the working solution.
- 01Mon 3 Aug · bill run
Fifteen first bills held before Thursday's print run
First-bill checkerThe July bill runs produce 204 first bills for rooftop systems commissioned in June and July. The first-bill checker rebuilds each one from its registers: 189 are right and ready to release, 15 are held before the print run on Thu 6 Aug at 06:00. On the First-bill watch every system is a dot on its energisation day, and the red ones cluster in the last week of June.

612 kWh exported, 0 kWh credited
Reem Saleh · Billing analyst, solar accountsReem opens the Solar ledger on NM-26-0412. Import sits above the line and export below it, with the energisation marked at 30 Jun 16:05. July shows 2,940 kWh imported and 612 kWh exported, but the bill as calculated credits nothing: AED 960.02. She has until Wed 18:00 to release it.
On the ledger: “0 CREDITED OF 612 KWH”
- 03Last bill by day
Thirty-one daily reads, none of the export credited
Register matcherSwitched to the last bill by day, the ledger shows the 31 midnight reads of meter E-5520-1187: import every day, export every day, and each day's export hatched red because the bill never picked it up. All 31 reads are actual, with no gaps. The inverter report shows 1,436 kWh generated, so 612 kWh of export is plausible.
Register matcher: “2.8.0 export advanced 612 kWh; profile RES-1R has no 2.8.0 channel”
- 04Six agents, one run
The agreement, the work order and the bill rebuilt
Commissioning reader and Credit calculatorThe reconciliation run lists every agent step. The commissioning reader reads agreement CA-26-11873, inspection IC-26-7741 and work order WO-26-448210: energised 30 Jun 16:05, posted with the “Residential standard” template. The credit calculator nets export against import before the slabs under rule 6.1 — 2,328 kWh, AED 738.32 with fuel surcharge and 5 % VAT.
Credit calculator: “Never changes a bill; a person releases every correction”
- 05Root cause
The same fault on ten more accounts
Root-cause classifierThe meter recorded the export, and all 31 reads are actual; billing just never read its export register. Profile RES-1R reads import only, and a net meter needs RES-NM-2R. The classifier searches every net-metered account and finds the same profile on 10 more first bills, all from meter exchanges posted 24–30 June. On the Exceptions screen, 11 sit under “Export register not billed”, AED 2,120.82 in all.
“25 open · AED 4,136.23 charged too much · AED 685.99 under-billed”
- 06Within her limit
Reem signs, with the meaning of her signature
Reem Saleh · Billing analystThe correction is AED 221.70, inside her AED 1,000 limit, so Reem raises it herself. The dialog shows the bill as calculated, the corrected bill and what the customer pays less by. Her signature records what she is confirming.
“I confirm the corrected bill follows the registers and Connection Conditions v3 §6. My signature records this meaning.”
- 07Signed · 09:52
Released corrected for Thursday's print
Reem Saleh · Billing analystThe account turns from Held to Corrected. The ledger stamp now reads “Corrected · 612 kWh credited”, the difference drops to AED 0.00, and the July bill is AED 738.32. The corrected bill prints on Thursday with the first-bill statement.
“Correction raised: 612 kWh credited, AED 221.70 off · statement queued”
- 08The letter
A first-bill statement that explains every number
Statement writerThe statement writer drafts “Your first solar bill” for Mariam in English and Arabic: her system was switched on on 30 Jun 2026, her panels sent 612 kWh to the grid, all of it was credited before the slabs, and her July bill is AED 738.32. It says plainly that the export had not been read and was corrected before the bill was sent. Every number has a margin note with its read or rule.

- 09The fix at the source
One fix list for meter operations
Arjun Menon · Meter operations leadMeter profiles checks every net meter fitted since 1 June against how billing reads it: 238 fitted, 226 billed on two registers, 11 on RES-1R and 1 in summing mode. The fix list goes to Arjun: change the 11 profiles to RES-NM-2R, reprogram the one meter, and restore “Residential solar” as the template for net-meter exchanges.
“All 11 RES-1R profiles were posted 24–30 June, after the ‘Residential standard’ exchange template replaced ‘Residential solar’.”
- 10Above the limit
A meter in summing mode goes to the supervisor
Daniel Pereira · Billing supervisorCorniche Walk Pharmacy's 38 kWp system exported 1,410 kWh in July, but its meter adds export to import, so billing saw 7,460 kWh used instead of 6,050. The rebuilt bill is AED 2,168.04 against AED 3,485.69 calculated. At AED 1,317.65 the correction is above the analyst's limit, so the button reads “Send to supervisor”.
